Orthopedic Care

Comprehensive Orthopedic Care

Our patients receive expert care to prevent and treat all types of bone and muscle conditions. Specialty-trained orthopedic surgeons and rehabilitation medicine physicians provide excellent outcomes and help patients return to their activities. Our orthopedic physicians at Lower Bucks Hospital treat patients from around the Philadelphia region for simple to complex sports and accident-related injuries as well as the painful effects of many conditions that limit your mobility and cause pain.

Our goal is simple: to help you regain freedom and mobility.

Most of us move our bodies without a second thought; we walk, run, lift, bend and play without ever thinking about it—until an injury or illness limits us in some way. The seemingly “effortless” movement of our bodies actually relies on a complex set of coordinated systems with your musculoskeletal system—your body’s bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, cartilage, tendons and connective tissue—giving your body its form and stability, as well as movement.

Our expert Orthopedic physicians at Lower Bucks Hospital treat everything from; arthritis pain, sprains and strains, cartilage, tendon and ligament injuries, broken bones and dislocations and joints that need to be repaired or replaced.

Lower Bucks Hospital Program TJAP

Lower Bucks Hospitals, Total Joint Assessment Program (TJAP), is an innovative partnership with Mercer-Bucks Orthopedics. TJAP was formed to shorten wait times for patients in our community who may require hip or knee replacement surgery.

Our diverse team of expert orthopedic clinicians’ cares for patients every step of the way. Following an early consultation for assessment and diagnosis, patients receive either surgical or non-surgical treatment options. If you need surgery, TJAP helps you choose your preferred surgeon, or the soonest available surgical date.

Enhancing the patient experience

Our office provides patients with an early consultation for assessment and diagnosis. TJAP is an innovative hospital partnership with the orthopedic surgeons at Mercer-Bucks Orthopedics.

A patient should receive an appointment with TJAP within 24/48 hours of the referral. On the first visit, a patient is assessed by a clinician — an experienced orthopedic nurse.

A comprehensive assessment includes physical, social, and lifestyle status. Patients identified as surgical candidates will move on to see an orthopedic surgeon at a second visit to finalize the decision. This second appointment should be within one week to two weeks.

Options to reduce wait times

Patients assessed at the office as being candidates for surgery will have options that can reduce their wait time. They may choose surgery with the surgeon of their choice or with the first available surgeon.

If the assessment determines a patient is either not ready or unwilling to consider surgery, a plan of care will be developed to help the patient and primary care physician manage their condition (e.g. pain control, weight management) to maintain or improve their level of functioning and overall health status.

From a patient's perspective, other factors can affect their willingness to have surgery, such as living circumstances, age, other health conditions and social support structures.

A multidisciplinary team dedicated to your recovery

While you and your family are the most important members of the team, our entire staff will help guide you through the actual surgery, your rehabilitation, and your overall recovery. One-on-one care from experts — surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, therapists, care managers — ensure that your recovery progresses exactly the way you expect.

Your team includes:

In addition to performing the surgery, your surgeon will work with the other team members to facilitate your recovery.

Prior to your surgery, your anesthesiologist will meet with you to help you decide which type of anesthesia is best, given your medical history and physical exam.

Our specialists in medical-surgical care will assist you throughout your surgical experience.

They will meet with you before surgery to assess your physical abilities, to review any precautions and limitations, and to recommend what you will need for adaptive equipment.

They will supply you with their direct phone line to assist you with any questions you may have along the way. You’ll meet the day before surgery, the day of, and the day after, ensuring the highest level of comfort during each step of the process.

Your therapist will perform a complete evaluation to assess any problems that you may have to develop your plan of care and goals for treatment.

A resource throughout your surgical experience, your case manager will meet with you before surgery to start a discharge plan to meet your level of function, level of support, and living situation.
